QSM Scheme continues to grow in its tenth year

05 June 2014

EBLEX’s Quality Standard Mark (QSM) Scheme is celebrating a successful start to the summer with over 50 new members joining in just one week.

The latest members to join the QSM Scheme, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, include 47 independent retailer butchers and three farm shops.

QSM Scheme continues to grow in its tenth yearThe new sign-ups to the Scheme come as a result of EBLEX’s latest communication with non-members, which offered businesses the chance to register to receive a selection of free promotional materials. 1,300 point-of-sale (POS) kits were made available to non-QSM members and over half of those were allocated in the first week to businesses keen to benefit from EBLEX’s marketing material.

The 50 new Scheme members will now regularly benefit from a wide variety of free marketing support materials designed specifically for their businesses. As QSM Scheme members, independent retail butchers and farm shops are eligible to receive regular POS kits which include: posters, cabinet cards, cut charts and recipe books.

Michael Richardson, EBLEX direct sales manager, said: "As well as having access to business support and free marketing materials, QSM Scheme members qualify to use the QSM beef and lamb logos in-store, on their website and on other marketing literature. This enables members to confidently inform their customers about the provenance, traceability and eating quality of the beef and lamb they offer. The QSM scheme is free to join – retailers simply need to be registered with EBLEX and sourcing beef and lamb through an approved supply chain.”

Michael added: "We’re thrilled with the response we’ve had so far; as well as the 50 new sign-ups, more than 200 additional companies have expressed an interest in joining the Scheme.”

Laura Bishop, EBLEX marketing manager (Quality Schemes), said: "With more consumers than ever seeking quality beef and lamb which is both safe and traceable, retailers are recognising the benefits of belonging to an assurance scheme such as EBLEX’s Quality Standard Mark Scheme.

"Our QSM Scheme is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and currently has 2,725 members. It differs from other quality assurance schemes because as well as providing guarantees of food safety, animal welfare and care for the environment, it also addresses key consumer concerns about the eating quality of red meat. Factors such as succulence, tenderness and product consistency are all issues encompassed by the scheme.”
